Release Day for Mine

Okay so you guys have seen this picture, I have it here on my blog, and I used it for my Thanksgiving post. The thing is that when I first saw it I was inspired to write something about two guys in love, just a simple novella about everyday life, about getting by, working and living. But as with most things, they change as you're writing. I wish I could outline chapters and have any sort of plan when I'm writing. I mean I have a general idea, an end place, but the road getting there changes all the time. So in the process of writing Mine, Trevan changed from someone who was just like Landry to a more of a caretaker. And Landry, it turned out, was much more fragile than Trevan but loved him just as fiercely. And the story itself grew from a novella to a novel. It's interesting to see the growth and change of a work.
Mine is releasing tomorrow, March 5th from Dreamspinner. If you all have time, please stop by and let me know what you thought of it. I'm interested to know what you think of Trevan and Landry.

  2. You are a pantster, not a plotter, and I bet that trying to change that would mess with your muse. Don't do it!!

  3. I am eagerly awaiting the release of the book! And what makes releases from the States more exciting is that, while it is already March 5 here (Philippines), it's still March 4 there. @_@ Oh, Lordy... LOL! Oh, question, Ms. Calmes. When will Mine be made available on Amazon?

    3. Okay. Just finished reading the novel and I have to say that it was...absolutely BRILLIANT! :)

First of all, I loved how unhinged and raw Landry was in his love for/obsession with/dependence on Trev. He is definitely not a common character. There are those writers who want to gloss over the 'dark side' of loving another person with their whole bring, but the way you wrote it made it not only shiver-worthy but also made readers come face-to-face with that dark part in them that is not necessarily evil but just IS. I really appreciated that truthfulness.

Secondly, I loved how Trev balanced or took control of Landry. 'MINE' is definitely the title of this book and a worthy title indeed to encapsulate their relationship in one word. While Landry may seem the more 'unbalanced' of the two, there is that feeling of attractive danger in Trev that makes me fear/love him as badly as I fear/love Landry. After reading the novel, I've come to care for both characters, but I wonder in the end if I am like one or the other and if others like me are simply better at hiding their inner Trev or Landry.

Another thing I loved is Conrad (yep, count me in in dear Connie getting a chance at love -- hehe!). You really created a character that has morals but is bordering sociopath. Maybe it's the allure of him being all big, bad and dangerous, but I really want to see what'll happen to him in the future (in other words: PLEASE GIVE HIM A BOOK!!!).

Lastly, I really do like seeing how much research (reality) you infuse in this work of yours. I knew of the reality of Trev's job before reading Mine, but not to the extent you have enlightened your readers with. You didn't bore me with the details at all - and that's quite a feat considering that I have the attention span of a young man trying to study for an exam while being surrounded by dancing, naked hotties.

Thank you, once again, for such a wonderful read! Cannot wait for Frog and for your future works~ <3

  6. I loved it. Yeah, I always say that, but really it was great. It was a lot more raw and edgier than I was expecting; Trevan's job, Conrad's personality, and the relationship between Trevan and Landry. I liked and appreciated that you did not gloss over the realities of Trevan's job. I adored Conrad and was fascinated by him. I would love for him to get his own book- I think it would be fascinating to see him fall in love. Trevan and Landry's relationship was intense but I adored them both. I love how different they both are from any characters you've previously done. I also loved how flawed they (Landry especially) are. I liked how Trevan handled Landry and how their relationship just woked. They just fit. There is a line in AMOT Vol. 2, bk4 that I thought worked really well for them- something (I most definitely am paraphrasing) about not needing happily ever after, just needing the ever after- it didn't matter if it was just ok, crappy, or crazy never after. Just the ever after mattered. Much as I love that for Sam and Jory, it fit here too and that was great. Im hoping for a sequel with either the two of them or Conrad...any hints?

    1. You always write the most wonderful things, thank you. And yeah. they are different, they're not perfect and there is no magical way out of the life that Trevan has chosen. Landry is a work-in-progress too. Funny that you're the second one who asked about Conrad. You get that he's supposed to be kind of the bad guy right? :)

    2. Kind of the bad guy- that's what makes him so appealing. First off, reading about him falling in love would be interesting- making that work without changing who he is at the core?? Also finding a love interest that does not mind his job? Besides the world is full of grey shades and you write that really well (and no I'm not advocating his job in real life LOL-that would be bad). He was a well layered character. Ill bet you get more interest in him. Anyways. Thanks for doing another amazing job. Will definitely be looking forward to Frog.

  8. Gotta say I agree completely with avatarminx.
I loved how different Trev and Landry were to your other characters, flaws and all. And I would like nothing more then to see this story continued either with another Trev and Landry edition or with Conrad getting his HEA. I really did like that man. He may be dark and dangerous but he values his friendships deeply.
    You did an amazing job.

    1. I'm thrilled to hear that you found the characters different, it felt that way when I was writing them. And also that you saw my main themes that I continually write, the love, the HEA. Or in Trevan and Landry's case, the best that can be hoped for in the life that they've chosen. I'm glad that you liked Conrad too, didn't want him to be too scary. So glad you liked it. :)

  14. I just wanted you to know that you did it again. I loved "Mine". I loved how Landry and Trevan loved one another. I loved their interactions. I loved how perfect they are for one another, how they just seemed to get what the other one needed.

I have to say that I loved Connie too. I agree with everyone else, I would love to see a book for him too. But I also want the what happens next. You wrote so beautifully about the relationship that I would love to see what happens next. (But I am always that way with your books) Thank you and again Congrats you did a fantastic job.

    1. So happy that you loved Mine and that you enjoyed the characters and their interactions. I wanted Trevan to feel like a caretaker but for Landry to have strength in his own way too. I am surprised by everyone's reaction to Conrad, happy, but surprised. I didn't think he was all that interesting. I will have to think on him. Thank you for your wonderful comments. :)
